CHEF STUDIO MENTOR SCHOLARSHIPS

Please download the Cooking Scholarship Brochure.

Who should apply?

Robert is particularly interested in applicants whose desire to become food professionals is focused in any of number of directions including, but not limited to: professional cooking, catering, small food or wine business management, teaching, photography, interior or kitchen design, writing, working with children, or working in history, the arts, nutrition, culture, or agriculture.

When to apply?

The first round of scholarships are available now for candidates for 8-week sessions beginning in January, March, and May 2009 at the Chef Studio.

How to apply?

1. WRITE A PAPER

Explain how you think this education will serve you, including, where and how you imagine you will apply what you learn. (Please, limit to 1500 words)

2. DEFINE A PROJECT

What skill or point of view do you have that you think might be of benefit to the Chef Studio? I could offer you a job, but if you came to me telling me you had something special to bring to me and would want to trade your knowledge or expertise for it, what would that be?

3. BUILD A BRIDGE FROM FOOD TO …?

How do you see the connection between food and … name another subject, e.g., photography, design, kids, agriculture, globalization, politics, etc. Where are the ‘dots’ and how do you connect them in your own thinking about the world?

4. TELL ME WHAT YOU WOULD EAT

If you were alone? What you would prepare for a supper of four? What you would prepare for a special dinner (guests, family, a table for 6)? Please do not make the effort to impress me, but tell me in detail what you already do so I have a sense of the skills you bring. Remember, good students are driven by the recognition that they do not already know everything.

5. DEFINE YOUR OWN SUBJECT/PROJECT. Which directions do your thoughts take you. One former student, for instance, created http://thechefstudio.com/CookingSchool/blog as her project.

Once the grant is awarded, recipients will be notified. A contractual arrangement will be created between scholarship students and the Chef Studio to clarify roles and expectations. Any, and all, grants awarded will be applicable to pre-determined and specified sessions at Chef Studio.
